Apple revealed that the labeling of 4G is legit

Apple decided to market the new iPad as a 4G device that is more compatible, it aims to answer the complaints of the consumer watchdog the Australian government.

Apple said some time ago in an Australian federal court that the decision to peer tablet as 4G does not deceive, the Australian reported. Tablet, which is compatible with 4G network in the United States, does not work on Australia's 4G network. Apple has offered refunds to customers who felt misled by the Australia Apple marketing. The company has said that it was clear from before the launch of the iPad that the tablet will not work with 4G network in Australia.

Apple Australia website said that the iPad works on the network "HSPA, HSPA + and DC-HSPA", without mentioning the "ultrafast 4G LTE" which promotes on its Web page in the U.S. and Canada - the only country where the iPad is a 4G LTE -compatible.

IPad dispute touches on another point of contention on the labeling of mobile networks in the world - that is what exactly 4G. Apple ran into trouble because of the frequency of the U.S. and Australia LTE networks are not compatible.

International Telecommunications Union, a standards setting body for telecommunications services, identified only two technologies as "true" 4G: LTE Advanced and WiMAX Release 2, which is not widely used.

But, technically, the operator can (and do) apply to the network branding 4G LTE, WiMAX, HSPA + network and with the blessing of the ITU since they provide a level of "substantial performance improvement ... in connection with the initial third generation systems now deployed."

That's why all the U.S. carriers advertise the 4G network, although each running a slightly different flavor: Verizon's 4G network is LTE network: AT & T is a mixture of LTE and HSPA +, T-Mobile's HSPA + network running. Sprint is a freak on the WiMAX standard, but LTE infrastructure.
